Keeping your dog safe during the holidays

Welcome back guys.

Christmas is closing in fast and the trees going up soon now is good time to think about the safety of your dog. I know in the past Hollie used to try and open the presents under the tree. Xmas morning she would have a great time ripping up all the paper. Anyway here are some tips to keep them safe during the festive time.
  • Secure your Christmas tree: Keep it out of your dog's reach. Use a tree stand cover if it's a real tree to prevent them from drinking the water, and consider a pet-safe, faux tree.
  • Safeguard decorations: Hang fragile ornaments and tinsel high up. Use shatterproof decorations and secure them with zip ties. Keep edible items like chocolate or popcorn garlands out of reach. If you would like any Christmas tree inspiration or ways to do this Pinterest is a great place to look.
  • Hide dangerous items: Keep poisonous plants like poinsettia, holly, and mistletoe away from your dog. Store Christmas crackers and edible decorations in a secure place, and place presents under the tree only when you are ready to open them to prevent chewing. Please check out blue cross for any advice on this
  • Manage electrical cords: Hide or use cord protectors to prevent your dog from chewing on fairy lights or other electrical wires.
  • Be mindful of food: Never feed your dog chocolate, grapes, raisins, or foods with small bones. If giving them scraps from the Christmas dinner, ensure there are no bones and they are plain. Provide them with their own dog-safe treats instead. Any nutritional advice please head over to The Dogs Trust
