Ideas for great short stays in Yorkshire for you and your dog.
Welcome back everyone, now that we are moving towards spring, I know I and some of my family are looking at short breaks with our dogs. We take our dogs away at least twice a year, we call it our “dog holiday”. We often look for hotels that are not only dog friendly but also have good dog walking areas nearby. We have stayed in some of the hotels listed and I will make a comment where we have. Don’t forget your luxury 4PawsYorkshire Waterproof Blankets, an absolute life saver on river and wet walks when you are staying in these hotels. If you are unsure about the sizing of our dog blankets please check our website.
Here are some hotels we know about and have stayed in several of them:
· The Pheasant Hotel – Highly rated country hotel in Harome that welcomes well-behaved pets in certain rooms; rustic charm and great base for walks around the Dales and countryside.
· Ox Pasture Hall Hotel & Spa (Scarborough area) – Classic dog-friendly hotel near the North York Moors; dogs are welcome in designated bedrooms and public conservatory/bar areas, with bowls and treats available.
· Holdsworth House Hotel (Halifax) – Dog-friendly historic hotel with garden access, welcome treats and bowl provided, close to countryside walks.
· Skipton Hotel – Offers designated dog-friendly bedrooms with direct outdoor access and easy links to Yorkshire Dales walking routes. We have stayed here, great walks along the canal if you don’t want to venture too far.
· Aysgarth Falls, The Wheatsheaf Inn near Leyburn – Great hotel, very friendly stay with dog-friendly rooms and access to beautiful walking paths. We stayed here, the access to the falls is super easy with a lovely walk to them.
· Ingetlon Falls, The Wheatsheaf Hotel, Carnforth not to be confused with the above, Again, we stayed here, large rooms well setup for dogs, the walk around Ingleton Falls is quite long with plenty of ups and downs so recommend you and your dog are reasonably fit.
· Sandburn Hall Hotel – Welcomes dogs in special dog-friendly rooms with terraces and access to grounds.
· In addition to these, a number of country inns and smaller boutique hotels (e.g., The White Swan at Pickering, Star Inn at Harome, Lastingham Grange) are also celebrated for being welcoming to dogs.
Tips for Staying With Your Dog
- Book dog rooms in advance. Many Yorkshire hotels only have a limited number of dog-friendly rooms and require notification ahead of time.
- Expect pet charges. Most places charge a small nightly fee per dog (typically £10–£25).
- Walks & beaches. Yorkshire is great for dog walks — moors, dales and many beaches (like Robin Hood’s Bay) allow dogs year-round.
Waterproof Blankets: We always take at least two of our 4PawsYorkshire waterproof blankets, our larger blanket is bedspread size, so if you come back wet and your dog does jump up on the soft furnishing they will be protected, great for the car as well. You can grab one from our website.
I can highly recommend taking your dog away, we have had some really lovely times, especially in the evenings, sat in the pub having a drink with an open fire and your dog/s gently resting content with the day’s activities.
Well that is it dog friends, we will talk soon, if you want to comment please visit our Website and let me know what you think about our selection of hotels. Also check out our blog on dog walks
Until next time, enjoy your dog.
Best wishes
