Hi guys welcome back, it’s been a very wet month and here at 4PawsYorkshire we have been busy with our waterproof blankets. I am amazed at the number of dogs and owners who pass our front window on the way down to the field and I try to note what breeds they are. Thinking about this I was amazed to find some really interesting facts:
· Almost 30% of the UK adult population own a dog about 11.1 million dogs, this is according to PDSA. What does this look like in terms of most popular breeds, well a great source for this is YouGov who give a breakdown of these breeds. I was not really surprised to find out who tops the list, but why and what makes them so special?
· Here are a few interesting facts on this:
Topping the list in order is:
The Golden Retriever: Has a UK (Scottish origin), ideal temperament for families, fits the UK life style, highly trainable and my favourite they are very predictable, great when you have a young family.
The Labrador Retriever: My personal favourite just because I have two of them. Outgoing, even tempered, intelligent, gentle and trusting what more can you ask for!. Although, to be fair Penny the puppy, our Red Fox is a real handful at the moment.
The Cocker Spaniel: The Cocker Spaniel is playful, intelligent and you can have hours of fun with them, the battery never runs down, so you will have to have lots of energy to entertain these go for it dogs.
There are of course many other breeds which are just as good and it’s all down to personal taste and what you need.
I have to be a bit biased here and have an interest in Yorkshire and what are the favourite dogs in the county. Well according to the York Express, a leading Yorkshire newspaper; would you believe it Top dog breeds in Yorkshire are Retrievers and Bulldogs that top the list.
