Hello everyone and welcome back. Like you all, we meet fellow dog owners all the time and I was surprised to find out how many dogs are adopted every year; it is estimated 110,000 are rescued each year. We at 4PawsYorkshire have been engaged with our fair share of charities and presently support “Guide Dogs” and have done since our start up 18 months ago. Apart from the fact this is a great charity which does incredible work, what really drew me to it was, I am going to act as a puppy trainer for them as soon as it is practicable. 4PawsYorkshire has donated blankets and supported a number of nationwide and Yorkshire dog charities.
Here is a selection of charities in Yorkshire and other areas, but don’t forget a lot of them are nationwide and provide real support to real dogs and people. Have a read of some of the stories in the links and support them where you can.
Oakwood Dog Rescue
We had worked with Oakwood Dog Rescue on a number of occasions and donated our 100% waterproof dog blankets to them. Oakwood Dog Rescue was founded in 2009 to help dogs find their forever homes. Based in Hull, East Yorkshire and specialising in re homing ex-street dogs for UK and overseas. Their goal and moto is ‘One Home Only’ and concentrate on matching the right people/home with the right dogs.
Guide Dogs
Over the years Guide Dogs have developed a wide range of services with and without dogs to support people living with a vision impairment for children, adults, friends and family. Whoever they are, the expert staff, dedicated volunteers and life-changing dogs who help people live actively and independently. We at 4PawsYorkshire are proud to support this charity which is almost entirely funded by donations, and are the world’s largest assistance dog organisation. As world leaders in puppy socialisation and dog training, they are the only organisation to breed and train guide dogs in the UK and also the largest employer of specialists dedicated to helping children and young people overcome the challenges of sight loss. I will hope to be a member of the team in the future.
Hull Animal Welfare Trust
Hull Animal Welfare Trust began as a club, formed by a small group of volunteers in 1982, who wanted to do something practical to help abandoned and unwanted animals in their area.
Initially using foster homes for cats and dogs in need, they were offered the use of some outbuildings on their current site at South Cave, not far from us at the home in Beverley East Yorkshire. At the time it was a small holding owned by a local market gardener. The facilities were very basic with no staff room or office, one water stand pipe only, which froze in winter, and a hole in the ground which was dug to dispose of the animal waste. It truly was a labour of love for all concerned. The trust has now grown, and is one of the largest dog adoption services in Yorkshire. Some of the adoption stories are truly heartbreakingly and uplifting at the same time, as we see abandoned dogs rescued and then lovingly re-homed.
Well, I hope this has been uplifting and informative. We at 4PawsYorkshire are proud to be associated with some of them and will continue to be. In the meantime don’t forget where you can get your premium 100% waterproof dog blanket if you want the best for your dog.
We have some other fun and informational blogs you might like to look at.
Hope you all keep well and don't forget to enjoy your dog.
Until next time, best wishes, Dave @4PawsYorkshire
